Traditional Picket Fencing

The classic Australian pointed picket — the front fence you picture when you think of a proper home. Timeless, clean and built from PVC so it stays that way without any maintenance.

The Fence That Works on Every Street

There is a reason the Traditional Picket has been the go-to front fence in Australia for over a century. It looks right on everything — heritage cottages, weatherboard homes, brick builds and brand new estates.

What makes the Traditional so versatile is the choices you can make with it. The cap you choose and the way the pickets are mounted completely change the look and feel.

Caps Are Everything

The cap is what gives a picket fence its character. With the Traditional profile, the cap you choose can take the same fence in two completely different directions.

Heritage Look — Pointed and Dog-Ear Caps

For that classic heritage feel, go with pointed or dog-ear picket caps. This is the picket fence you see on character homes in Fremantle, Subiaco, Mount Lawley, and North Perth.

The pointed cap suits older suburbs and traditional streetscapes. If your home has period character or you are in a heritage area, this is the natural choice — it looks like it has always been there.

Pair it with a through-rail mount for the most traditional finish.

Modern Look — Flat Caps

Swap the pointed cap for a flat cap and the Traditional profile takes on a completely different character. Sleek, minimal, and clean — it suits new builds, renovations, and properties with a contemporary feel.

The flat cap softens the heritage edge and gives you a fence that feels modern without losing the familiar Traditional proportions. It works just as well on a rendered new build in Burns Beach as it does on a renovated cottage in Leederville.

Take It Further — How Your Pickets Are Mounted

Once you have chosen your cap, the way the pickets sit on the rail is the next decision. This is where you can really change the feel of your fence.

Front-Facing

Pickets mounted on the face of the rail instead of through it. It creates a bolder, more refined street presence with the same Traditional profile.

This is a Probuild Exclusive — we are the only company in Australia that can manufacture front-facing pickets, because of our custom machinery in Malaga. It adds a modern edge, even with a pointed cap on top.

Have a look at our Face Picket range to see the difference.

Through-Rail

The standard method — pickets slot between the rails. This is the traditional way and gives you the classic picket fence look that most people picture.

Clean, proven, and timeless. If you are after the look that has worked on Australian front fences for over a century, this is it.

Depending on your budget and the look you are going for, the combination of cap style and mounting method means the Traditional profile can take you in very different directions. Give us a call and we can talk through which combination suits your place.

FANTASTIC!! We are so so happy with our sliding gate. We had PVC fencing in place when we bought our house, so wanted a similar look. The team at Probuild matched what we wanted exactly.
